Phix meets: Thomas Haywood of the blinders
My style is patchwork at best. I’ll find a couple of nice pieces and pair them up with whatever else I’ve got in rotation at the time until I’ve worn them out to shreds.

How would you describe your personal style?
Patchwork at best. I’ll find a couple of nice pieces and pair them up with whatever else I’ve got in rotation at the time until I’ve worn them out to shreds. I keep a small wardrobe cause too many belongings stress me out. Despite my best attempts to look sharp, I will surely descend into my usual vagabond-ish self.
What are your 3 style essentials that you think every person needs in their wardrobe?
Pair of boots you can wear everyday. The broken-in the better. Roll neck for those Leonard Cohen days, and a jacket or an overcoat you can wear with anything. I wish it was autumn all year round.
What do you like most about Phix?
We came down to the office in Manchester a while ago and were invited to pick something from the rail. I think I might have asked for the jacket off of Adam’s back which was a one off prototype for a dogtooth coat. That still gets a regular outing. I think I’m wearing it in the video for Circle Song.
Best gig you've ever been to?
Father John Misty at the Manchester Apollo, or Nick Cave & Warren Ellis at Royal Albert Hall on their Carnage tour. We managed to wrangle some good seats. I’ll remember that evening for as long as I’m alive.
One piece of clothing you can’t live without?
A pair of well worn-in boots. I can usually get away with women’s shoes because I have small feet, and the kind of stuff that they still make and the variation of styles I think is quite cool. That goes for clothing in general actually. Men’s fashion as a whole bores me.
I have a slim, thigh length black leather jacket from a flea market in LA. It had a rip in it so I got it down to something like $40. It’s now got many more rips.
Is there anything you regret wearing? Why?
Plenty of things I regret not wearing.
We're really inspired by music history at PHIX. What is a song you can listen to on repeat?
I’ve been known to play Ballad of a Thin Man excessively at parties.
Who has inspired your style the most?/Style icon?
I’m not sure. Probably the man from the answer above, circa 1966
